Bridles are equine headgear used for directing a horse when riding. Bridles are an important piece of equipment for any riding discipline. Bridles are made up of the headstall that holds a bit and the reins that are attached to the bit. English and dressage bridle styles include the snaffle bridle, the Pelham bridle, and the double bridle. Western bridles offer varying headstall features like the split ear or one ear and generally don't include a noseband. Specialty bridles such as the gag bridle are often seen in speed events or the halter bridle that's heavily used for endurance riding. Bridles for harness horses are slightly different than a typical bridle being made with blinkers to restrict a horse's peripheral vision. Bridles are fitted to each horse specifically to ensure comfort and clear communication from the rider. Bridles are made in a vast assortment of materials with leather being the most common for riding casually, schooling, or showing. Bridles generally come in most every size including mini, pony, cob, horse, warmblood, and draft.
